Being a Huron native, I sometimes take for granted the unique cultural experiences that are at my fingertips right here at home. Thursday night I had the outright pleasure of attending a preview performance of Hometown, one of many exciting new plays featured in historic Blyth Festival Theatre’s 2011 Summer Season.
Growing up in a tiny rural town, I never thought I’d have such rich cultural resources in the immediate area, but I have the good fortune of living in Blyth, in the heart of North Huron. This is not meant to be a critique, but more importantly an example of the vast opportunities for experiencing the arts in the area. Hometown was extremely fitting as well – a play compiled of several unique stories of growing up tied together with one girl’s journey across the country in pursuit of family and of home. Filled with music, laughs, and touching memories, I would recommend the play to anyone. More than that I would recommend any play to anyone at the Blyth Festival Theatre, world-renown for their unique Canadian theatre experience.
